Comment:

When I first heard these lads on the radio, I said, "I have never heard anything like this! Definetely not somewhere further back in rock and roll's history!" - and I was right. There have never been ANY bands EVER that dare to do the exact same thing as these completely original boys. They are lo-fi, they play simple chord progressions, they wear suits - this band is here to stay! I mean, jeez, everything else is definetely only a timely thing. Hippie rock? That went out. Disco? Oh, lord, that one also. 80's style metal? Despite the unasumming title, that one didn't really last through the 80's. That's why I think we HAVE to completley embrace the new garage rock tren - err, permanent-style-of-music, because it is so fiercly original, and completely unhackneyed, that it is destined to stand the test of time. My next mix will be a comprehensive guide to the other two bands that are most definetly here to stay: The White Stripes, and The Vines. These daring young individuals are certain to Rock and Roll us into the next generation, and into every other one afterwards. A final note: in twenty years, your kids will definetely love this music, too! It's that original! It will be the first style that parents and children alike can relate on! Fashion and Trends regardless: retro-rock is certainly not just the next-big-thing - it's here to stay!

I was gonna say...you can't put together a mix like this and NOT include the white stripes...the vines are a bit questionable, but the white stripes *thumps up* definitely.

I don't know.... I think some of veiled (and not so veiled) nastiness toward the Hives and White Stripes is sour grapes. They DO write good hooks and they DO rock. Clearly, they're mining old territory, and getting paid handsomely for it, but at least a few people are getting turned on to good old records as a result. How many kids sought out the Pixies thanks to Nirvana? How many kids looked into the VU thanks to REM, or Big Star thanks to the Replacements. Wouldn't you rather that the Hives and Whites Stripes were selling records than, say, Mariah Carrey? As for the Vines, I"m not into them - but then, I"m not the world's biggest Nirvana fan.

Sorry to ramble below (and to forget the word "this" before 'veiled'). In any event, I guess you'll have to live with the Hives until the Stooges re-form; or listen to the White Stripes until Son House and Led Zeppelin collaborate. I don't know enough about either band - perhaps they're phonies, I don't know; at least they make decent records. Give them that much.

Dude, this is just "Vini Vidi Vicious". Be a little more original with your mixes, already! Jumping Jesus Xavier Christ in a mosh pit!
