Comment:
For a buddy of mine, two years younger, who asked me that question many many times. I couldn't answer it then, and I can't answer it now. This mix shows that. (Sorry Nick)Feedback:
It's emotional hardcore ;)
hehe yeah but come on... it's evolved since then. i tried to cover way too much ground.
I think it evolved becuase of the media labelling stuff like ataris, saves the day etc. as emo. Still, it's a cool mix.
Come on, now. This is all pretty-boy rock. Where are the classics? Embrace, Rites of Spring, Still Life, Moss Icon, early Lifetime, Current...hell, even Heroin, Antioch Arrow and the early Gravity stuff. You'll need to look between 1986 and 1993 to find out what emo really is. Or was.
Emo is a comedian with a helium-voice who has trouble finding work these days :-P Labels are for Tipper Gore...THIS ROCKS!
nice nice nice. hehe. one of my favorite Thursday songs (although i have hard time picking a favorite!) :)
this is pop punk little girl rock. no Braid? no Rites Of Spring? no Jehu? this ain't emo bro.
so this is like modern media considered emo...whatever...its still a sweeeeet mix!
guys guys come on let's not fight. azathoth, elitist boy (hehe) don't worry i know all that stuff, as you can see this was a for a friend of mine... i wasn't getting too deep, i was going for a kind-of poppy overview. the kid's two years younger than me man, and he listen to a lot of classic rock and gnr and that sort of thing. and emosucks i hear ya bro. i'm all over the braid and jehu action (though i could care less about rites of spring)
rock n roll.
rock n roll.
azathoth is right i'm afraid. gravity, ebullition, old glory, council, early file-13....that's my interpretation of emo. but i guess it's all just an interpretation. so everyone's right? hah. doesn't really matter. just saying.
those were labels by the way. eep
hehe. you're lucky i'm not in a mean mood. actually, some of it isn't bad (jets to brazil, sunny day real estate, braid, etc. etc.) but i mean, come on! juliana theory? the ataris? slick shoes? yuck. you might as well have put dashboard confessional on there. at least you picked a good alkaline trio song.
i was going for variety. i do not like those bands you "yucked" at but i figured i'd give nick a little sample of what kids these days call emo. he digs the juliana theory but mostly he was all over cursive, sdre and grade. so, i dunno. the mix served its purpose.
yeah, for a tape that is supposed to define the "Emo" movement i was dissapointed to see that the likes of "Rites of Spring", Embrace", "Cap'n Jazz", etc etc had been replaced by pop punk (that happens to be lyrically whining about girls)
mmm... cap'n jazz. i haven't listened to them for a while now.
metric-- nice! too bad about not seeing them (york u, thats cool too. i live in vancouver)
pilate is a band thats- maybe sadly?- getting exposure via Much. but theyre pretty good, at least i like them.
