Music from John Hughes Films
Comment:
Some of the '80s' biggest hits were forever burned into our brains with the help of John Hughes' sharp-shooting soundtracks, but his silver-screen smashes snuck in under the radar some tunes that might not have grabbed their fair share of ears otherwise. Kirsty MacColl's jingle-jangle cover of the Smiths' "You Just Haven't Earned It Yet, Baby" was a B-side before bubbling its way up in She's Having a Baby. Ferris Bueller showed the world there was more to the Dream Academy than "Life In A Northern Town" by casting Matthew Broderick's big kiss against the breathless romantic ballad "The Edge of Forever." Hughes wasn't limited to alt-rock and high school anti-heroes, though — Steve Earle's cover of trucker anthem "Six Days on The Road" gave a country-rockin' kick-start to weary road rats Steve Martin and John Candy's screwball journey in Planes, Trains and Automobiles.
