Comment:
Kurt Weill (1900-50)is a contender for artist of the century, here's the most cogent case I could make for him in 90 minutes. This tape covers all his major theatrical scores, largely in chronological order, representing both his groundbreaking '20s German work with Brecht to his astounding transformation into hit Broadway composer of the '30s and '40s. Recordings derive from cast albums, vocalists and modern-day rock interpreters. (And I skipped the Doors' 'Alabama Song' and Bobby Darin's 'Mac the Knife'.) Weill's stature continues to grow, and what better way to kick off this year of his centenary celebration?Feedback:
Seriously, though -- were people blind and deaf when you posted this mix??? Or do the comments erase themselves over time?
This is a truly awesome mix.
