Comment:

Trying to convince an old-school-indie-rocker that Bright Eyes is worth his time. Unlike Rob's wonderfully personal defeninitive single artist mixes, when I make a single artist mix it is almost always to introduce a specific person to the wonders of band x. It's tailored to them, not to me. If this Bright Eyes mix was for my own personal collection, I'd probably drop Movement Of A Hand and have kept The Difference In The Shades, among other things. But these are the songs I think Albert will cream over. Lots of new stuff, not so much old stuff. I think the new album is great and I figure if you're going to get into it now, you might as well know the direction Conor has gone in. I cut a lot of songs from "collection" at the last cut, with that idea in mind. I decided to keep just one and chose Falling Out Of Love... because I wanted to show Albo some of the more hopeful lyrics. Last songs to go included Neely O'Hara, The Difference In The Shades, I'll Be Grateful For This Day..., On My Way To Work, The Calender Hung Itself, Saturday As Usual, and Lila. I had to cut a lot because I decided early on to keep Let's Not Shit Ourselves, Nothing Gets Crossed Out, and Entry Way Song, all three of which are really long. I'm usually a sucker for shorter songs but in the case of those three I make an exception because I think Let's Not Shit Ourselves is the masterpiece of that album, and both Nothing Gets Crossed Out and Entry Way Song are two of the prettiest songs I know, and this boy likes pretty. This one was really tough for me to narrow down, but I think he'll really like it.

Beautiful primer. I especially like "A Perfect Sonnet", "Something Vague", "The Movement of a Hand", "A Song to Pass the Time" and "Drunk Kid Catholic". Thanks for the complimentary nod in your comments.
