Originals - World of Frank Sinatra
Comment:
What? You mean these songs aren't Sinatra's own originals? Believe it or not, Frank was just as gifted a listener as he was a singer, and he cast his net wider than you might expect to harvest his hits. Fred Astaire's catalog proved a fertile field for Frank, and the greatest dancer in Hollywood history brings his white-tie-and-tails elegance to the 1947 debut of "One for My Baby," which sounds like more of a salon song than a saloon song in Fred's hands. Liza Minnelli belts one to the Big Apple bleachers in her show-stopping ode to America's favorite city, "Theme from New York, New York." And '60s folksters the Kingston Trio set aside their hootenannying ways for a subdued, almost bittersweet acoustic treatment of "It Was a Very Good Year." As you probe deeper, you'll not only be amazed at Sinatra's ability to stamp his identity onto virtually any style or song that crossed his path, but you'll also hear just why he was so attracted to these tunes.
