Initially inspired by the hardcore punk of Hüsker Dü, the Lemonheads rode the alt rock surge of the early '90s to become (on a global scale) one of that era's signature bands. Front and centre was chisel-jawed slacker god Evan Dando, who seemed to blow his chance for superstardom at a time when the eclipsing forces of Britpop were starting to pick up a head of steam . . . but let's not understate the power and influence of the Lemonheads in their prime. Most often identified by a thumpin' cover of Simon & Garfunkels "Mrs. Robinson", the Boston-formed band gave us the brilliant title-track to breakthrough album [i]It's a Shame About Ray[/i] (1992), and their highest-charting U.K. hit, "Into Your Arms" (1993).
