A fat, gooey Valentine to Todd Rundgren; his sugary fingerprints are all over this one. Every song would have been the best tune on any tape I'd made up to that point, so I'd learned how to economize time and go for the big punch in my mixes. Some thoughts about key tracks: THE BEATLES- I'll bet The Mini-Beats haven't covered *this* one. BILLY JOEL- I'm certain Billy is a very intellectual man, but even he couldn't have grasped that he was writing one of the all-time heavy metal riffs. JOURNEY- Dismissed as twits, and not without some justification, but back in the day, hit radio was so lame we actually looked forward to whatever Journey, Boston, or Led Zep song not called "Stairway to Heaven" the program planners had to offer. THE SMITHEREENS- Best song B.T.O. never made. HOUSE OF FREAKS- Ditto John Hiatt.
