Comment:

I was having a discussion about music with this guy I work with. I could not believe his ignorance. He was dead set that the two most important bands of the 90s were Dave Mathews Band and Pearl Jam and that all music comes from Led Zeppelin. In an attempt to not murder him I offered to give a history lesson, via mix tape. this is his first lesson. i am also going to make him read "Please Kill Me" (a book about the original New York punk scene) and "The Secret History Of Rock N' Roll" (about all the influetial underground bands of the 60s, 70's, & 80s). This tape is not perfect, I have left off some key artists such as Talking Heads, Suicide, The Fall, Patti Smith, Blondie, Minutemen, Bauhaus, The Boomtown Rats, Nine Inch Nails, Liquid Liquid, MC5, The Sonics, Melvins, and PJ Harvey....etc; but i had a limited space and I Wanted to represent as many eras as possible.

wow... this is like a walk through the alternative rock hall of fame or something. My favorites lie in the Ramones-Costello section.

i like the mix. it makes me smile a big smile and make me want to dance around my room. in a geeky "i can't dance, and even if i could, you can't really dance to any of these songs anyway" kind of way.

Good choices, but what some Sonics and MC5 would have been the icing on the cake!

Browsing through the archive and found this. Very nice... I would like to see some Minutemen/fIREHOSE on the sequel. I hope the lesson was a success.

This is pretty educational.... minus the sex pistols. i don't think anyone should hear them, ever again. I'm actually glad you didn't put any Mike Watt bullshit on here, but that's just me.

And P.S. Where the fuck are the girls in this one? How about some Bikini Kill or some Free Kitten or some X-Ray Spex?
