A member of the excellent Fence Collective that also boasts among its number KT Tunstall and the Beta Band, Fife native James Yorkston has graduated from unremarkable bass player in a minor Scottish punk band to groundbreaking acoustic folkie. His voice has drawn comparison to Ray Davis from the Kinks, and his overall sound has cast him as a latterday Nick Drake, but it's probably best to set the touchstones aside and simply enjoy the rolling narrative of "Shipwreckers", the unwinding loveliness of "Surf Song", the fragile melancholy of "Don't Let Me Down" and the thought-stimulating spoken word digressions of "Woozy with Cider".
