Comment:

In 2002, the hip-hop/R&B world was still reeling from the sudden death of Aaliyah, as her final album (see: the hollow beats of "Rock the Boat," the slow burn of "I Care 4 U") left a legacy much larger than her 22 years. Lucky for us, many artists were ready and willing to pick up the pieces, from the singer's close friends Missy Elliott and Timbaland (the future-shocked old-school nods of "Work It") to such similar crossover stars as Ashanti and Usher. And then there were the MCs who ran with a steady stream of smash singles, including Eminem ("Lose Yourself," "Without Me," "Cleanin' Out My Closet"), Nelly ("Hot In Herre," "Air Force Ones"), and the Dirty South's leading loud mouth, Ludacris, who bowled us all over with "Move Bitch" and "Rollout (My Business)."
