In Deep Cuts, our T.M.B.G. crew goes wild in the lab with a Bunsen-burnin' beakerful of songs scientifically designed to bring a little art to the world of science. The genius behind "Solid Liquid Gas" is that the music actually reinforces the concept: the "solid" part is played at a s-l-o-w, dirge-like tempo, while "gas" enters the soundscape at a Ramones-like frenzy. What took your physics teacher an hour to cover in a snore-inducing lecture, T.M.B.G. packs into a minute-and-a-half song your kid will never forget. Moving to elementary physics, the lads break the visible spectrum into its seven basic colors and then reassemble it in the person of "Roy G. Biv," the "colorful man who proudly stands at the rainbow's end." And finally, as we say goodbye, we can pile into our Prius or vault into our Volt as the band teams up with Robin Goldwasser in a tribute to our favorite carbon-neutral creation, "Electric Car."
