They Might Be Giants (For Kids!)
Comment:
Going back to their earliest days, we always knew that They Might Be Giants were a couple of kids in grown-up bodies, so it's no surprise that the band put itself at the head of the smarty-pants class with a bunch of children's records that make math, English, and science not only fun, but also cool. This isn't just a rehash of songs like "Now I've Learned My ABC's"; it's a surprisingly sophisticated teaching tool with concepts way beyond your basic toddler fare, including brainiac topics, such as nuclear fusion, as heard in "Why Does the Sun Shine? (The Sun Is a Mass of Incandescent Gas)," and higher mathematics, featured in "Infinity." True to their playground roots, though, T.M.B.G. lightens up the lesson plan with inspired, kid-friendly goofiness in tunes like "Dr. Worm," "Cowtown," and perhaps the strangest comic book hero of all time, "Particle Man." So, if you're looking for some extra credit as an extra-hip parent, here's your assignment. We'll even let you take it pass-fail.
