Comment:

80 minutes from one of my current favorite artists. I don't know what happened between Whiskeytown's "Strangers Almanac" and his solo debut (the pretty-much-flawless "Heartbreaker"), but whatever it was, he wound up being about ten times the songwriter as a result. It's a testament to the quality of his work that there was almost a complete discs' worth of songs that I had to leave off of this (despite the fact that he's only released three solo records). Songs that it hurt to cut: "In My Time of Need", "Sweet Black Magic", "La Cienega Just Smiled", "My Winding Wheel", "To Be Young (is to be sad, is to be high)", "Why Do They Leave?" and "Nuclear".

Great mix. I've been learning how to play "Firecracker" (badly) on the guitar... luckily, it uses the same three chords as a lot of Adams' songs.

I used to think single artist mixes were such imposters, but now...It's interesting that even a mix of a single person can fall into such a wide spectrum of taste, I would never count NY, Damn Sam, Water or Blvd among the best, but it takes all kinds... Lovely mix.

"Damn Sam" is my favorite song of his, by far. "Blvd" is also near the top. But thanks.

Huh. You've got the Gold bonus disc, but didn't use "The Bar is a Beautiful Place"? That's one of my favorites of his. "Rosalie Come and Go" is a great pick, and I prefer it to some of the Gold stuff. Nice job cutting down the Heartbreaker stuff. I love the album and most of it would be difficult to cut, but you managed to grab almost all of my favorites. I'd have liked to see "To Be Young...", but when you've only got 80 minutes some good stuff has to be cut off. As a matter of fact, the four I'd like to see are listed in yours "songs I wish could be on the mix" area. Ah hell, hold me to 8 Heartbreaker songs, and there's a pretty good chance I'd pick the same 8. Anyhow, nice mix, and when you have some free time, let me know and I'll hook you up with some of the unreleased stuff.
