Comment:

My CD drive is currently, as they say in the classics, screwed. For whatever reason it's refusing to acknowledge that there is anything in the drive when I put a disc in. Consequently I'm left without a burner, and so I've resorted to doing a followup to my old Chance Operation mix... i.e. lining up some 530-odd mp3s in Winamp, hitting the shuffle button and letting it go. This time it's produced some really nice as well as some really odd transitions (Cabaret Voltaire into Big Country?), certainly some I'd never have thought of doing myself. There are a few repeat appearances in here but I've left them in to preserve the flow. The live version of "A Forest" goes about 13 minutes; I have no idea where it was recorded. My copy of "Land Speed Record" is in the form of two mp3s--one side of the record per file--because actually splitting it into individual songs is just about impossible, hence why the whole of side one gets credited here as such. The "original studio version" of "Young Man Blues" is the one released on a Track Records sampler in 1969 and otherwise unavailable on disc anywhere. All told, not a bad way of becoming reacquainted with some of the tracks on my hard drive that I hadn't played for a while...

you might try the basic stuff with your CD-RW like opening your case to make sure it's plugged in. Re-installing drivers. Checking the system settings. Hope something works!
