Comment:

Searching for rocking brass tunes last night, I remembered what surely is one of finest, Fear's NY's Alright. After that, I started pulling some old Slash records faves & decided to throw down a greatest hits mix. This covers every Slash release from '79 - '85 (I think) except for two I lack, the Decline soundtrack (which I'd like) & The Bodeans (which I never liked). After '85, the label's output definitely loses it's edge. Phil Alvin's solo LP is great & it was cool to have US releases for The Chills & Robyn Hitchcock, but those are overshadowed by dreck like Faith No More & L7. Still, some classic sides representing the diversity of early '80s LA & elsewhere. Whole lotta love to Sean Lally for supplying digital versions of the Gun Club, Dream Syndicate & Blasters tracks for me.

I share your Slash sentiments. I think you got everything covered except for the ones you mentioned. I only have a vinyl copy of Decline (with Darby on the cover, which I now am gonna dig out and blast).

Great stuff Jim. You've nailed the worthy Slash stuff I think.

Between X, "Border Radio" and "Gone Daddy Gone" it looks perhaps like another "new car blast-o-rama" mix! Up the knob, clock-wise!

Looks cool, J. Which reminds me of the fact that I promised you to make a Ron Johnson Rec. tribute mix a while ago. I will tackle that in due time . . .

Kick ass! Much ass!! I remember trying to sing "Richie Dagger's Crime", wanting to convince my dumb high school "punk" band to cover it. It was....uh, bad. God bless that Darby Crash. Anyone read the bio book?

Looks good! To be honest, I'm not sure what a "brass tune" is. I thought it meant the song had horns (trumpets, trombones, etc.) , but most of these songs don't. Can you enlighten me? Confused in San Diego.
