Yeah, anyone with 69 Love Songs needs a mix like this.
Feedback:
I think everyone who bought the box found it necessary to do the same thing. What's amusing is how different everyone's looks. I made my own version (25 Love Songs) and I think only about a third of the songs overlap. But you hit most of the best songs -- "Papa Was A Rodeo" being, of course, the best gay truckers in love country song ever recorded, and "Yeah! Oh Yeah!" the nastiest anti-love song I've heard. Off the top of my head, I'd have to question the omission of "Long-Forgotten Fairytale," the cleverest new wave song Depeche Mode should have recorded, and "Busby Berkeley Dreams," earnestly sad and beautiful.
I think pretty much everything on the box is at least very good, with a substantial portion of the tunes in the great-to-phenomenal range. The songs that I miss most here are "Acoustic Guitar" (which, along with "Book of Love" and "Little Words", is tied for my favorite tune on the box), "Busby Berkeley Dreams" (as noted by popkulcher), "Asleep and Dreaming", "A Pretty Girl is Like..." and "Absolutely Cuckoo". You got plenty o' the greatest tunes, though.
Ok, yes, I took out Busby Berkeley Dreams, but it was the very last one cut. I probably should have taken out "love is like a bottle of gin" or "My only friend", or "the death of ferdinand..." for it, but considering I was lazy and made this pretty much chronological, they helped the flow of the album. If I'd just gone for straight-out best songs, I would probably have chosen 3 or 4 differently. Still, it's hard to go wrong with this box.
Apparently everyone had this idea (it was even sort of suggested in the interview that came with the box). I thought I had posted my "25 Love Songs" CD...guess I hadn't. I agree with Rob, though. The box is pretty phenomenal. Put all three discs on shuffle one day and you'll see what I mean.
