Comment:
In Basics, we heard from the guys, in Next Steps, we heard from the groups, and now in Deep Cuts, we'll hear from the gals who made the year sing. Delicate as a butterfly wing, sweet as sugar magnolia, Cyndi Thomson bridges the gap between Rickie Lee Jones and Dolly Parton in the sumptuous sultriness of "I Always Liked That Best." If Cupid smiled on Thomson, he misfired with Lee Ann Womack, as she traces the arc of a doomed affair from one man's unfaithful hand to her broken heart in "Does My Ring Burn Your Finger." And we couldn't possibly close out the year without hearing Faith Hill complete her astonishing transformation from country superstar to pop deity (winning a GRAMMY® in the process), largely courtesy of one of country's all-time greatest power ballads — the title track from her chart-topping Cry.
