Comment:
At risk of losing my rock snob cred, I have to admit that, while Sleater-Kinney may be one of the more visceral, exciting bands of the past decade, I find Corin Tucker's wail and the no-bass twin-guitar attack to grate a bit over the course of an entire album. So an 80-minute cdr might suffer the same problem (perhaps twofold); fortunately, I could counter the effect by sticking largely with their catchier tracks, the ones highlighted by interwoven vocals and even sing-along choruses, while interspersing the occasional mid-tempo song amidst the post-punk blasts. Included a couple b-sides and tracks from all albums through the new one (excluding their first); though, of course, you could really just take "I Wanna Be Your Joey Ramone," "Little Babies," and 74 minutes of static and still have a great S-K mix.
Feedback:
Nice mix. You just name-checked my two favorite S-K songs in your comments. (Perhaps you saw my "Some things you lose, some things you give away" mix a couple of weeks ago?)
I did see yours. I guess you got your copy of the new album before I did. Damn you! I also just completed a T. Rex mix (which I saw you post recently) and I'm working on a Pretty Things mix (having just tracked down the rare Electric Banana stuff). But I think it's when I get around to my Buckingham-only Fleetwood Mac mix that people will be forced to conclude that I am your evil twin.
Am I the only one who loves Corin Tucker's wail? Nice mix by the way.
don't tell anybody... but i kinda agree. sometimes corin tucker's voice can start workin my last nerve. but they're still rock and roll fun. good to see some of my favorites on here!
sounds like a good mix.. I love sk. i don't have a cd burner or tape player to record these songs..can you send me this mix????get back to me later!!!i will give u my address. when u email me with info!
ah, yes. sk all the way. still dont think little babies is their best track, but this looks good :)
