Comment:
Shinedown come by their Southern rock roots honestly — founding guitarist Jasin Todd married Ronnie Van Zant's daughter Melody, and their earliest demos were done at her studio. But musically, these Jacksonville boys venture way past the Mason-Dixon line, giving pop, metal, and grunge a ride in their power-chord-fueled pickup, gunning the motor on the way to multi-platinum glory. The thrash-crazed riffs and roaring vocals of the appropriately titled "Devour" draw pictures in your mind of four Southern kids locking themselves in their garage with a boombox and a Metallica CD until the sound seeps into their bloodstream. And yet it's easy to imagine the supersized melodic choruses that rocket out of "Breaking Inside" and "If You Only Knew," inspiring hit-bound pop and country cover versions. The boys bring it all back home with their own cover, of Lynyrd Skynyrd's "Simple Man," prompting visions of an alternate reality where Eddie Vedder took Skynyrd's reins after Ronnie's passing. From headbangers to Dixie twangers, the ultimate Shinedown experience awaits you.
