the miles davis quintet in all their glory - miles with wayne shorter (except track one when its george coleman), herbie hancock, ron carter and tony williams. i struggled with what tracks to include, because we're talking a run of genius here, one that spreads over 5 albums, with tracks appearing on a further 4 (at least! and i'm not counting 'live at the plugged nickel'). however, arranging the tracks chronologically, i've tried to show how the quintet developed. you can see their ridiculously prolific output too - tracks 4 to 10 were recorded in just over a year! in order to underline the power of the quintet as a group, i've included 'pee wee', a tony williams tune that miles sits out.
