Comment:
Allright, I know I already did one called Red Neck Chic but that one only had a couple of these gems tucked in here and there. This one was done for the man who came up with the term - my friend Aaron. This is the real deal. This stuff brings back some memories (hell, I grew up about 20 min. away from Gilley's anyway), but since my friend Aaron grew up outside of Chicago and has his own memories of the genre, I thought I'd post this up for any of you who miss the time when country had it's pop culture moment. It's a little Merle heavy, but what're ya gonna do. (It's not like I have a vast collection to choose from, but this mix attempt turned into a trilogy-as you will see the 2 other country mixes I'm about to post. I don't like a lot of country, but what I do like, I love.) Anyway, the biggest surprise on this mix is how great a song the Dolly's "Jolene" is. I've heard remakes by punk bands that I've liked, but Dolly blows the remakes out of the water. And "Convoy" has to be one of the funniest songs out there. "Sneaky Snake" was a childhood indulgence. My cousin used to play the guitar and sing that song when I was five, so...For those of you who love corny music, this is a goldmine.
Feedback:
this is great drinkin' and fightin' tunes. I would have put "Fist City " by Loretta Lynn instead of the Oak Ridge Boys but the rest is just awesome.
yeah, that Oak Ridge Boys song is pretty ridiculous, huh? But it sure does bring back a time...
cool, gotta love tracks like "I was the only hell mama ever raised" and "take this job and shove it"
great. i always like that stuff.
Great stuff! I think that Smokey & the Bandit song is Jerry Reed....
Nice. And a mix can never be too heavy loaded with Merle.
Oh yeah. I love this.
