Comment:

Nobody — but nobody — flies the flag of the Lone Star State higher and prouder than the Pearsall-born native Texan Strait. And nary an album goes by that he doesn't make some reference to the Republic he loves, in songs we love. With a lonesome fiddle playing sweet, low, and sad underneath Strait's plaintive voice, "Amarillo by Morning" rolls up a flat-busted cowpuncher's hope and woe into to one finely tooled saddlebag of a song. The shot-and-a-shrug Western-swing philosophizing of "All My Ex's Live in Texas" rolls along at a muddy Frio River tempo as Strait counts off the reasons — Allison in Galveston and Eileen in Abilene among 'em — why his hero now lives in Tennessee. And if you're feelin' like a Texas-two-steppin', boot-scootin' boogie, slap on your Tony Lamas and motor on down to "West Texas Town (Duet With Dean Dillon)." But don't stop there; from "Does Fort Worth Ever Cross Your Mind" to "Home in San Antone" and points beyond, there's no question that George Strait's music — not to mention his very soul — is deep in the heart of Texas.
