With Loudon Wainwright III and Kate McGarrigle for parents, and Rufus for an older brother, Martha Wainwright may have had a musical leg-up, genetically speaking — what's perhaps surprising though, given such high-profile blood ties and her college-age decision to side-track into drama, is how deftly she's managed to carve out her own unique space as a singer-songwriter. Her full-length, self-titled debut arrived in 2005, packing such melodic delights as "Factory", while a subsequent hook-up with Snow Patrol ("Set the Fire to the Third Bar") and the supremely hummable "You Cheated Me" (2008) showcased her talent for bridging the gap between leftfield and mainstream.
