Greatly admired by Beck, Kurt Cobain (who pushed for a reunion tour in '93) and David Byrne — whose Luaka Bop label put together the [i]Everything Is Possible[/i] compilation — Brazil's Os Mutantes were true 1960's groundbreakers. They created an incredible fusion of psychedelic rock and samba/bossa/tropicalia, with a healthy disdain for technical rule-books and a plethora of home-made instruments: "Bat Macumba", for example, features a guitar cross-bred with a sewing machine. Dive into their exotic whirlpool of sound with the supremely catchy "A Minha Menina" and the astonishing woozy, bluesy hybrid track, "Baby", both from their brilliant 1968 self titled debut album.
