Otis Taylor is all about pushing the blues tradition forward, but he would never have been able to budge it an inch if he wasn't so steeped in the knowledge of his roots. He takes the spooky spirit of John Lee Hooker to outer space for the trippy tale of life after death "Resurrection Blues." He digs deep down into the very building blocks of the blues with his own raw-boned version of Big Joe Williams' stone-cold classic "Baby, Please Don't Go." And he brings an all-too-contemporary topic to light while busting into an old-school hill-country stomp on the stark, stirring "Mama's Selling Heroin."
