Comment:

Mostly from recent CD purchases... Mostly old favorite artists giving the fans what they want... "Dizzy" was a scrapped Siouxsie single from 7 years ago that's been sitting in the vaults... Beth Gibbons from Portishead sounds so relaxed and lovely on her new solo album... Jenny Toomey (former Tsunami frontwoman & Simple Machines label honcho) sounds like she's having a ball on her new album (especially on this Cole Porter-ish number)... Ben Folds is a love 'em or hate 'em proposition but his songwriting skills have always been solid and "One Down" (the only new original from his recent live album) is one of the better So-I-sat-down-and-wrote-this-song songs in recent memory... Saint Etienne and Aluminum Group both released albums that sound exactly the way a fan would want them to... David Bowie's new one isn't great, but is certainly pleasant enough listening... and his recent live shows have been AMAZING... Dump (a/k/a James McNew) does a wonderful cover of a Pacific Ocean's best song and Ivy does an interesting cover of an old Cure standard... For those who have wondered what slowcore pioneers Low would sound like if they tried to rock out, "Canada" is your answer... Sonic Youth's new one was like a heartfelt apology letter to all the fans who endured 'NYC Ghosts & Flowers' and all I can say is "I accept!"... The song selection on Imperial Teen's new 'Live at Maxwell's' CD shows the band thankfully knows exACTly which songs from 3 studio albums are the keepers... Liz Phair's still-never-officially-released "Can't Get Out of What I'm Into" is prime early-period Phair (maybe she'll get around to making another album someday) and the Mirah and Containe tracks *sound* like prime early-period Phair ;-p ...By the way, the Dump and Would-Be-Goods songs are from the recently released and Highly Recommended Chickfactor Magazine V/A 'MixTape' compilation CD (go to www.chickfactor.com for more info.) ... One last thing: the cover art is a Van Gough inverse.

This looks great! I don't know how I missed it. I would love to see Liz Phair's Girlysounds see a legitimate release. I have three different copies of it, and none of them sound anywhere as good the "officially released" versions on the Juvenilia EP.
