Comment:
This was a simple mix I made to cover the best of the non-singles tracks from the Stones' amazing four album run between 1969 and 1971 (Beggers Banquet, Let It Bleed, Sticky Fingers, and Exile On Main St.) This was when the Stones truely were the greatest band in the world, and this streak will probibly never be matched. Its a shame more people don't hear the great tunes not on Hot Rocks, or 40 Licks.Feedback:
Great idea. Fingers & Exile were far and away the best things the Stones ever did (Mick Taylor made the band). "Monkey Man" and "Knocking" are among their best "jam" tunes. I understand your omission of "Tumbling Dice" as a single (though it's their best track, IMHO), but I'd have added "All Down the Line" (and maybe "Shine a Light").
All killers from a dynamite period. Shame they spent the next thirty years tarnishing this era.
Great stuff.., and I'd still take everything thru' "Tattoo You" from 'em....even if the following lps weren't of the stuff as these you mention....but the "devil and the deep blue sea" can take 'em after that!
great pix. I agree with Lo-Fi Jr here. They were untouchable up to "Exile". Since then...............well.
