Comment:
Another single artists mix, this made for a freind who just bought "Oh, Inverted World" which is just one of the best CDs of the last few years. These tracks are culled from two vinyl 7", the "Know Your Onion" single, and the Flake Music 1997 album "When You Land Here, It's Time to Return." Not everyone knows it, but Flake Music is the exact same line-up as The Shins (and even oddly has a track titled "The Shins" and also lists "The Shins" as one of the "Artists We Like" in the liner notes). Though I list the three hidden tracks at the end, they are actually interspersed throughout the Flake Music stuff, but it's impossible based on the CD and its erroneous packaging to figure out exactly which tracks have which title.Feedback:
hurrah for the shins. 'those bold city girls' is so good. also, a couple of those b-sides sound like pavement but i couldn't tell you which ones by name...
Yeah, I love these guys. All of these songs are great.
This looks excellent Patrick. Now that the wedding/honeymoon is over, perhaps we can go through with that trade we discussed a while back.
don't worry Patrick, the vinyl has the same crappy lack of track listings on those interspersed tracks.
this is making me drool profusely. i saw them on friday and they played a few of these - i especially like when i goose step, for some reason. i really do need to get that know your onion! single.
i must have commented months ago under the guise of alex/zach, but again, its good to see another shinhead, wow, i never thought of it like that, i forgot how much they can sound like a weirder guided by voices
Wow! The first half of both of our Shins compilations look exactly the same. Check mine out and tell me what you think.
As for Flake Music, they were actually on my friend Mark's record label, Omnibus. "When You Land Here..." is a great album, but i still don't know why they didn't bother to name some of the tracks. Anyhoo, Flake Music did have the same line-up as the Shins, but they shifted around instruments and renamed the band The Shins prior to going on tour with Modest Mouse. Mercer and co. cobbled together some songs for the tour and released two 7" on Omnibus ("Nature Bears A Vacuum" and "When I Goose-step.") The vinyl version of "Oh, Inverted World" was released by Omnibus Records while the CD's were released by Sub Pop.
One interesting note: a couple of years ago, I picked up a rare 4 song split 7" Flake Music and Scared of Chaka. It features one Flake Music song not on "When You Land Here." Ironic that both of these bands now have members in the Shins.
