Comment:
George could put lightning in a bottle like nobody's business, but that doesn't mean that his rockabilly and country kin weren't kickin' out some musical moonshine of their own. In the anxiety-filled agony of "Don't Tell My Wife," former G.J. sideman Johnny Paycheck wears his fretful heart on his sleeve as he pleads with the audience not to let his once-unfaithful wife know he still doubts her devotion. The late Vern Gosdin lives up to his nickname, the Voice, as he ladles out his honeysuckle baritone over a hard-won wisdom-lesson in love, "Chiseled In Stone." And finally, Merle Haggard fritters away his wife, his friends, and his future in a drink-driven spiral into honky-tonk hell in "I Threw Away the Rose," recently covered by Jones himself. From ex-wife Tammy Wynette to fellow Country Hall of Famers Conway Twitty, Buck Owens, and Loretta Lynn, we've got all the tradition-makers — and tradition-breakers — who shared the airwaves and arenas with George.
