Comment:
Of all the quirky, Captain Beefheart-indebted groups to reside at Manchester's Ron Johnson label,Stump were not only the most distinctive, hut also the most endearing. Unlike their manic stablemates,
mad-eyed Mick Lynch (vocals), Chris Salmon (guitar), Kev Hopper (bass) and Rob McKahey (drums)
avoided an aggressive, staccato-guitar onslaught, opting instead for awkward chord and rhythm changes
and a wacky, humorous lyrical content, first heard on the charming EP "Mud On A Colon" in March 1986.
BBC disc jockey John Peel was an early admirer and while Stump's Peel session of that year would
eventualiy surface on vinyl the following January, the band were caught up in the C86 program
organized by the New Musical Express, and appeared on The Tube television show with the offbeat video
for their contribution 'Buffalo'. A debut album, "Quirk Out", was issued on the Stuff label as Ron Johnson ran into financial problems, and it was not long before Ensign Records lured the band into major territory. `Chaos' preceded a second album, "A Fierce Pancake", revealing a Stump that had lost none of their individuality, but it was 'Charlton Heston', with its 'lights camel action' line and frog-dominated video, that attracted most attention. A full-scale single release of 'Buffalo' looked set to break the charts, but after it failed, the band all but disappeared. Except for the C-86 demo version of "Buffalo" and the 4 tracks they recorded for the John Peel Sessions (all of which are included in their original versions here), this is their complete output. For DJ Hoover.

Feedback:
Always love the band who can fit their entire output onto one disc. Charlton Heston put his vest on! That's all I know by 'em. Let's include this in that long aniticipated trade.
Wow. Nicely done Thomas.
don't know 'em, but want to. Loving your German discs by the way, Thomas!
cool but i'm not sure i've heard all their songs but the half i'm familiar with are great. I keep my 7" safe
Hey Thom, you got me "stumped" on this one. Thanks for the poster-sized picture too! They're so dreamy! Seriously, I think I've heard a couple of their songs, which apparently didn't leave an impression since I never bought any of their stuff. Perhaps I made a mistake...
Wow! A blast from the past - I'd forgotten all about them. Nice one!
Hmmm..., you'd never tell by *those* faces they could create musical mischief..! I've heard all of "zip an' zilch" by 'em...(but if it's a "Mohr-to-Hoover" deal I'll stand in line.)
the only thing i know about Stump is that their inclusion on C-86 is often bemoaned by those who swear by the "C-86 sound." this looks interesting though...
soooooooo cool! i love them!!! how much is the fish? does the fish have chips?
Mensch,Thomas!
