In the mid- to late '90s, electronica went mainstream in the biggest way imaginable, thanks to the concerted efforts of captivated critics and crowd-pleasing artists like Fatboy Slim and Moby. A something-for-everyone mix of living room listening and dance-floor-detonating cuts certainly helped, from the hammering highs of speaker-scorching singles like "Red Alert," "Da Funk," and "Blue Skies" to the nerve-numbing lows of bedside lullabies like "Days Go By (Acoustic)," "Sour Times," and "Unfinished Sympathy." And then there are the tracks that land somewhere in between, sprinkling our Next Steps with shifty beats and candy-coated synth lines.
