Comment:
In my continuing children's educational series, I figured it time to tackle the solo Beatles. Not as easy as it looks. How, for instance, do you excerpt the 'Plastic Ono Band' LP? (A shame I had to omit 'Mother.') And Paul's early LPs get by on charming ditties (to they extent they get by at all) rather than knockout songs, with exceptions of course. Toughest part, though, was whittling it down. I indulged myself in creating a 'conversation' to lead side two: Paul's popcraft, John's withering critique thereof, Paul's cryptic reply, George's heartfelt Why can't we all just get along? I'll do a late-solo-years tape someday, but it will probably be Paul-dominated.Feedback:
Nice. Very comprehensive and admirable.
Do kids need a note from home before the Two Virgins lesson? Been kicking a similar idea around over the last year. Trying to imagine an LP from an alternate universe where The Beatles never broke up. Looks like you followed the correct ratio of George & Ringo songs to Paul & John.
Excellent idea and picks.
Great stuff - nice idea & some excellent choices.
great "education" mix! Choices are solid, representative of who each was....the parts of the whole.
i did something similar last year for my best friend and, while he enjoyed it, i'm not sure if it turned it quite as good as it could have been. i'm a huge george buff and found that i spent a lot of time agonizing over my picks for him and not paying as much attention to john, ringo, and paul. you did a great job here, though. a very nice primer.
