Comment:

Sure, he's got a reputation for being a total pervo and music business prick. And maybe he stole a bunch of songs from his piano player. And maybe he shows up to play, keeps his car running, and never tells the backing band what song or key he's playing. And hell, maybe he's even installed a video camera or two in public restrooms. Forget about all that for a moment. Chuck Berry could rock. I was listening to the Spiders' version of "Johnny B. Goode" recently (thanks, Jim) and I got to thinking about all my fave Chuck Berry covers. Here's a few of them, with a couple original Chuck numbers (and a more-derivative-than-usual Rutles tune) thrown in for good measure. To me, Chuck is the Jesus Christ of guitarists. Or maybe Jesus Christ is the Chuck Berry of Christianity. Ah well, whatever the case, let it rock indeed.

something about those Berry tunes,
how could any band resist 'em? This looks like a fitting tribute - good picks!

how in the world can you have achuck berry mix without a single chuck berry song. dude, your just not right on this one. when barry was recording his 80's stuff up in minnesota, their was some other guy really honkin' up a storm, rockstyle. that man was paul westerbird. paul was a good god fearing man and rarely wrote about the devil or "gettin his fix ohn." he was more into stuff like archives and gentlemanliness and takin out the trash. when chuck barry tried to get him to come out on a tour with him and his group, paul said, "not if drugs, alcohol or the ways of the devil will play a role in the music or the presentation. obvioulsy, he didn't go and was forced to take a job at a tuna canning factory to make ends meat. sean, can I ask why you are so inspired by people like joe ramone and chuck berry, their not of the earth, they are mystical demons swiltering all of out carpets about all of our heads. ALL of our heads, dude. great mix :)

Nice mix. Chuck is it! I wrote him a fan letter back in the early seventies. I would have been disappointed if he actually wrote back...Rock on Chuck!

This is fantastic, and your quote "Chuck is the Jesus Christ of guitarists. Or maybe Jesus Christ is the Chuck Berry of Christianity" made it even better!
