Comment:

It's easy to overlook Nick Lowe and forget what an important figure in the history of punk rock he is. Maybe it's his immense output, some of which is a bit spotty or overproduced. What's most impressive about him, I think, is how he has matured into an elder stateman of popular music in general. His most recent records are probably his most solid efforts - or at least they're my favorites, full of modern classics. Anywho, I've made this mix to present the case for Nick Lowe as a pop craftsman, brilliant lyricist, ace sideman, and general rock and roll hero. This mix showcases him at many points in his career and was made possible by a grant from Lo-Fi Jr. and Dean, fab AOTM-ers. The original version of this mix had a few more live rarities, but they didn't make the cut - perhaps a volume 2 will need to be made. The highest compliment I can pay Nick Lowe is that he's written at least half a dozen songs I'd kill to have created. And so it goes.

yeah, but he was a wise guy when he was young, too - & don't we all love the sound of breaking glass?
This looks like a great trip along the Lowe road.

A smashing mix to a hero of rock n roll. If he had only written the last track that would make him a hero in itself, but as it is this whole mix is one to die for.

Great compilation from, as you said, an oft-overlooked figure. Virtually omnipresent at the start of every "scene", I'm baffled as to why he doesn't get the credit he deserves....almost justifies breaking glass!

Excellent. I've been wanting to do one of these for a long time (none of the commercially-available Nick Lowe packages out there include both his solo works and Brinsley Schwarz days). I'm far less familiar with his latter-day work; my own version would probably lean far more heavily on Brinsley and the first album, but yours is far more well-rounded. [And note to Gerald: Yes, Nick wrote "Peace, Love & Understanding"; apparently the residuals on Elvis' version are what keep Lowe solvent.]

Apparently, there's a lame-o version of Peace.. on the Bodyguard soundtrack. That's what keeps him solvent.

and everyone knows why it's on the soundtrack 'cos it's not in the film, but it made Nick a millionaire (the real reason are according to Nick, that Kevin Costner wanted Nick to produce an album by him.)

Ecellent mix - and it includes the gem "There's a cloud in my heart" with the unforgettable lines "and there's no substitute/
although I got to admit some were really cute"
