Comment:

So this is my take on Brian Eno's seminal No New York comp updated for the current era. Not that any of these bands are aping that sound but the connection to the past is pretty clear. Blonde Redhead might be a strange choice as they have been around for almost a decade - but I couldn't ignore them with a name like that. And they seem to be the only of the four that hasn't been swallowed whole by today's Hype Machine. Though this might be construed as a sampling of the "New York sound" I don't think such a scene really exists.

Interesting. I don't really know much about any of these bands, but the suggested link to No Wave really intrigues me.

I like these, but what about French Kicks? "Young Lawyer" (the version with 9 tracks) is a terrific album.

not only that but I just read some twats are putting out a REAL cd comp called Yes New York with the likes of Radio 4, Strokes, and Yeah x3s. Sort of like a sampler of NYC bands all contributing a song. Tho my Rapture pick is dubious I think you got to go 4 bands 4 songs like the original album.
