Comment:
My best-of for the Fall era that I love, 1977-83. (NOTE: This was revised on 1/19/03 after acquiring Hex Enduction Hour.) There will be a volume two. Favorite track: "Rowche Rumble". Last tracks cut: "Totally Wired", "Who Makes the Nazis?", "Stepping Out (live 1977)", "Hexen Definitive/Strife", "Printhead", "Rebellious Jukebox" and "Garden".Feedback:
I like it!, although I can relate to your girlfriend's unreceptiveness after repeated listenings. I can only handle Mark E. Smith in small doses as well. Didn't Sonic Youth do a cover of Rowche Rumble? Then again they cover everything.
SY did an entire Peel session of Fall covers. Glad to see you've come around on The Fall, Rob. Also happy you were able to find a version of Hip Priest for inclusion.
"The doctors need prescriptionsThe wives need their pillsSo Rowche Rumble"Nice one Rob. Even his band mates find Mark E. difficult to take for long stretches, he sheds 'em like dead skin.
I like this a lot and definitely want a copy at some point. I was a latecomer to the Fall, but now I dig 'em big style.
Nice stuff, Rob,although I too can only take them in small doses. I remember a couple of years back, while listening to my local college station, the presenter said (after playing a Fall track) "if you want more of that, listen to such and such station, where they're doing a 12 hour Fall orgy - or, keep it on here, where you can hear everything but the Fall". Of course I kept my dial where it was...
Mark e Smith is one of the coolest in rock biz along with Kevin Rowland and Vic Goddard he's what the punk should be about (anti-rock)
hi rob! i telephoned with my friend the other day and he is burning the" hex enducation hour" cd soon (his burner broke down so this took a while). sorry for the delay! and yes, fall are fantastic!
this is very nice.
Wonderful, of course. However, I'm far more partial to their slightly poppier mid-'80's period, and, for contrast, have just gone and posted my pre-existing Fall mix here for a bit of contrast. I have Hex Enduction Hour and about a dozen other Fall cd's in my collection if you need to crib anything for further mixes.
I take it back; I don't have Hex on cd, but rather Hip Priests & Kamerads, which has some of Hex mixed with other studio & live bits. Incidentally, a new reissue of Hex is due out next week, but I can't tell if it'll include any bonus tracks or other goodies.
very very nice! i think i'll have to make a 90s fall mix now, to complete a troika w/this and popkulcher's 80s one -- i know i'm in the minority, but i think mark e. just gets better and better, and his last five or six albums are top o' the heap in my book. still, you really can't go wrong with any of their output.
by the way, if you ever update this mix, you should keep "garden" on! it's my absolute favorite early fall track.
I definitely like "Garden" more than "Rebellious Jukebox", for sure, but probably not more than any of these other tunes... and it's so looonnnggg... Thanks for all of the comments, folks.
great stuff, rob. "rowche rumble" has recently been on just about every mix i've made for my own demented purposes. love these guys (or, actually, this guy, i suppose).
eeeexcellent!
