Mystery Jets
Comment:
"Is that you on the bus, is that you on the train/You wrote your number on my hand and it came off in the rain" — frustration, desire, insanely catchy melodies and lyrical poetry are combined in fresh and energetic ways by the excellent Mystery Jets, who hail from Eel Pie Island (near Twickenham). The memorable line above can be found on "Young Love", their Top 40 hit from 2008 featuring guest vocalist Laura Marling, and there's lots more to love on their opening salvo of studio albums: "You Can't Fool Me Dennis" remains a standout on 2006 debut Making Dens, "Half in Love with Elizabeth" offers conclusive proof that the tangled undergrowth of heartbreak is where the band feels most at home, and "Dreaming of Another World" from 2010's exceptional Serotonin raises their bar yet another notch.
