Comment:
After making a batch of solo masterpieces, the eternally restless Todd Rundgren put together Utopia, which lasted more than a decade, going through drastic shifts in personnel and especially style. The group started out playing synth-splattered, conceptual prog-rock epics like "Overture: Mountaintop and Sunrise/Communion With the Sun." On Deface the Music, however, they tackled an ambitious concept of a very different kind, indulging Rundgren's British Invasion obsession by crafting seamless Beatlesesque wonders like "Take It Home." Never one to get behind the times, Todd led Utopia into more new wave-y waters on 1982's "Bad Actress" while never abandoning his trademark melodic knack.
