Tammy Wynette
Comment:
The immortal duets cut by Tammy Wynette and George Jones became sacred texts of country music, and by the time Nashville unleashed a generation of stars who'd grown up on those tunes, Tammy was in demand as a singing partner all over again, with predictably hit-making results. Randy Travis — who's certainly no stranger to Jones comparisons — sought out Wynette's vocal for the forlorn "We're Strangers Again," practically an homage to the George & Tammy era. Still, Wynette sounded undeniably up-to-date alongside Wynonna Judd on the country-rockin' song of sisterhood "Girl Thang." And there's never been a closer country equivalent to the Holy Trinity than when Tammy teamed up with Dolly Parton and Loretta Lynn on the Kitty Wells classic "It Wasn't God Who Made Honky Tonk Angels."
