Comment:

Either a loving hommage to or blatant rip-off of lo-fi's mighty MMM series, and I don't know how you do it, Jim. The WFMU biennial record show is one of the best, and I always come away with a pile, mostly of scratchy vinyl. But try making a coherent whole from a buncha garage comps, rockabilly, sunshiney pop, a handful of brazilian LPs, a weird collection of asian pop, some northern soul and R&B, a gospel comp, fill-in LPs from Beefheart and Zappa and a bootleg of mashups. What have we learned from this challenging formal exercise? That I really don't care that much about Beefheart and Zappa. That I'm a fetishist thrilled to nab the pop-up cover of Tull's 'Stand Up' and the 3-D 'Satanic Majesties' (so scratchy I used the record from my earlier copy with standard cover, if you must know). That David Hentschel made a really weird synth cover LP of Ringo's 'Ringo' album. That Caetano Veloso isn't God -- but he's close. That I'm willing to include the voice of Eminem on a mix. That 'Baby, Now That I've Found You' is every bit as undeniable as 'Build Me Up Buttercup.' And that you've got to get up pretty early in the morning to find tracks that will make AotM-ers take notice.

Just listened to my preview copy of this. I'll accept the hommage & the love. With the MMM now history, you'll have to be the new king o' record show mixes. At least until I make it out for a WFMU gig. You do have a foldout, right.

Excellent. Jimmie Rogers is pretty close to god too but he ain't close to Veloso...hmmm. I saw and put down that Tull pop-up. Nice to see it was put to good use.

Eric....could be more a loving "fromage" to lo-fi as well. And ya' just knew Master Burns would have seen that pop-up, too! Some great stuff captured and appropriately pinned like a Blue Morpheus to delight and amaze....the Flying Machine, Badfinger, Raybeats, and Stones...(how much did that 3-d cover go for..?) Hmmm, the Foundations..., might need to hear that....anyway, this AotM'er took notice. A tip o' the helmet.
