Comment:
This isn't just any crush mix, its a SKA crush mix...mmm...yeah. And it perpetuates the tradition of the ska cover. Thanks to Amy for the Reel Big Fish song. (Edit: Speaking of covers, that _IS_ me on the left, and the one this mix is for on the right. And that _is_ a weezer pin on my lapel...yeah I'm so cool.)
Feedback:
Dude is that you on the cover? Sweeeeet fro! I am deficient in my knowledge of ska, but what I know I like. First ska crush mix I've seen. Good luck with aaaall that.
Russ, you were cool and all before, but now with the usage of that FIF song you just got bumped up a couple more notches in my book.
Yeah, ska is fun, I'm into second and third wave stuff...the first wave is a bit too jamacian for me. *shrug*
you had me with the picture but lost me with the "bit too Jamaican" quote.
White bread anyone?
White bread anyone?
Ska came in three waves. The first was the precursor to Reggae, and was formed in Jamaica, with artists such as the Wailers, the Skatalites, and Desmond Dekker. The second was when a lot of British bands started to copy the Jamaican ska sound and change it a little. These were bands such as the Specials and Madness. Then the third wave came when British ska band the Toasters moved to America. This created a ska "revolution" in America where they began adding distorted guitars and more punk elements. This made the bands we're all familiar with such as Reel Big Fish and Less Than Jake.
oooh, someone else is very lucky too, eh? gotta love a good ska comp - there's nothing better to help start your day. i agree with you on the second and third wave versus first wave, as well. i like first wave, but... i gotta be in the mood for it, wanting to mellow out and such. oh, i was so pissed - the wailers actually played around here, and i couldn't get in since it was 21+. fuck bars.
