Comment:

This mix resulted from a reasonably successful attempt to collect all of my favorite "punk" (and I use that term loosely to include British, American, pre- and post-punk stuff from the early 70's to the present) songs in one 80-minute package for Jen, who's heard a lot of this stuff but hasn't had it organized so tightly until now. As I had a very definite (yet indefinable) idea of what type of song belonged here, however, some of my very favorite "punk" bands (and just favorite bands, period) like Husker Du, the Stooges, Descendents, the Jam and Television didn't make the cut. I also noticed that both the NYC and the D.C. scenes are somewhat underrepresented; this shortage stems from the fact that the NYC scene (for as much as I love it) was a bit too arty to have a lot of songs that fit the vibe of this mix and the fact that the D.C. scene was a bit too intensely hardcore to fit the vibe of this mix. There may be a second volume, though, to account for some bands that have been passed over.

I got a very similiar punk mix CD once, and I loved it. So this one's good too!

this is a big part of my youth with a few exceptions of the american bands like mummies, minor threat and germs, high class stuff

Excellent Rob. All stuff that while, as P the Swede says, was "a big part of my youth," I can listen to today without a hint of nostalgia. Says something about something...or something.

It's what you include in the mix, not what's left out, which makes this mix so enjoyable. Your favourite bands can't be included in every single mix you make, so you are bound to feel slightly disappointed everytime! The joy of being a mixmaker! This is a great one, Rob, and some of my very favourite punksters are here. Well done.

This looks especially kick ass to me. You'll have to give us a report on how it goes over with Jen.

Nice collection, I'm inclined to like the west coast "punk" better than the New York scene myself. DK, Black Flag,X all my favorites.

Bitchin' mix, Rob. Every track a killer. Been planning a pair of mixes myself to celebrate what some consider punk's silver anniversary. Looks like you've set a high standard for me again.

Looks great Rob. Not a bad cut on the mix. I tend to favor the NYC scene over West coast (not that I hate the west coast but if I have to choose) but that may be in part to being so close to NY and getting to know some of the fringe players in later years.

Punk rock is dead - Haven't you heard? Not a bad track in the lot. My sympathies tend to go more west coast, though. Maybe it was the raw brutal emotion of it. Or the loud-fast element. Or the fact that the west coast seemed so exotic when you're a youngster on the opposite coast.
