Comment:

Just your basic chronological mix. I'm not a huge fan of their later work, as should be obvious from the track list. Here's a band in desperate need of a well-handled reissue series, with digital remastering, bonus tracks and the like (though I suppose David Byrne has little interest in revisiting his past). Sadly, little evidence of their role as one of the most riveting live acts of the punk/new wave era can be found outside of bootlegs. The outstanding Name Of This Band Is Talking Heads, a far better live album than Stop Making Sense, remains unavailable on official cd ("A Clean Break" is from a vinyl --> cdr conversion); official release of the Warner Bros. live promo lp (from which "Electricity," an early version of "Drugs," is taken) would be nifty as well.

Excellent! I'm sure if I were to compile a mix of these guys, it would almost be identical. This was my favorite band on the planet when Speaking In Tongues came out, but nothing since (or before) has matched it IMO.

Hmm.., certainly different than the Heads disc I'd have made..., through '83s Speaking In Tongues I ws more than fascinated by this band, and the first five (not including the live) are still listened to occasionally...me, I'd have to have "The Book I Read", "Take Me To the River", "Heaven", (can't argue w/ the choices from "Remain In Light"), "Slippery People" & "Swamp"...then, have at it...."77" was one of the first ten cds I bought when I started replacing (read:"replicating!") all that beautiful vinyl....a great band, and a band who may just engender more personal takes on the work than most others.....

Oh.., forgot: I got to see them in '83 on that Speaking In Tongues tour. Houston. HOT.

Some great stuff here. I would have hit "Remain In Light" harder, as that's not only my favorite TH album but one of my top three favorite albums of all time. I also would have included "Sax And Violins," which just might be my favorite TH song ever, for some reason. Oh, "The Girls..." was a nice inclusion. BTW, the new box set has "A Clean Break" in all its digital glory and a nifty outake of "Drugs."

I have "The Name of This Band is.." on vinyl. I have minidisc and cassette to record to and would share with anyone willing to then make me a cd copy.
