Comment:
Xmas mix for two.One was AOTM user Adam Crothers, whose recent relationship with a certain musical instrument prompted my 69 LOVE SONGS selection.
The Guided* track was chosen because it is the closest a band from Northern Ireland has come to a teenage symphony to God (or sthg). The singer also shares Mr Crothers's weakness for Kiss and Sophie-Ellis Bextor, and so is clearly of the same feather.
"Catch" by The Cure because it mentions snow and the days getting colder.
"Goodbye" by The Sundays because it is one of the best songs ever written.
Roque Jnr. because Adam is far more of a rock beast at heart than I ever will be.
"Obstacle 2" by Interpol because of "the snow that fell".
"Hobart Paving" by Saint Etienne because of it's Xmassy qualities; mainly the shimmery ripples of guitar in the last third of the song which remind me of the Cocteau Twins.
The Impressions because they keep you warm in winter.
And finally, Go Commando because one of 'em plays the flute and we Belle And Sebastian fans tend to like that sort of thing.
Remember : "Life ain't ever funky unless it's got that POP"
Feedback:
I love this mix - sheer gorgeousness, of course. Did I mention I'll be seeing Sophie Ellis-Bextor in concert before this month is out? Rock and roll ...
hmmm! that prince song is top, if slightly judgemental and hobart paving must be some kind of definition for loveliness. neat!
