Collaborations - The World of Elton John
Comment:
Whether it's behind the mic or on the keyboard, Elton John brings his matchless magical touch to every recording session he graces; no wonder why so many artists want him for theirs. While rocking the 88s on the ragged-but-right raucousness of John Lennon's "Whatever Gets You Thru the Night," Elton bet the former Beatle that the song would go to #1 — and it did. In contrast, Elton contributes tastefully muted keyboards on Alice In Chains' bruised power-ballad of a tribute to the late Layne Staley, "Black Gives Way to Blue." In perhaps this millennium's strangest Christmas song yet, Elton trades vocals with Neil Tennant and Brandon Flowers on the Killers' soaring anthem of condolence, "Joseph, Better You Than Me." In the everything-old-is-new-again department, E.J. teams up with his hero and longtime pal Leon Russell for a back-to-basics voodoo blues, "If It Wasn't for Bad." Whether it's the Queen of Soul, the Queen of Country, or even the band Queen, all of pop's royalty want to share the studio with Sir Elton.
