Comment:
Clearly, the good Lord created only one Elton, which is not to say that he doesn't have a lengthy list of performing pals and peers. By the time he blasted off into the cosmos with "Rocket Man," E.J. was boldly going where at least one man had gone before, as proved by David Bowie's glam-y fusion of camp and cabaret in "Life On Mars?" Legendary triple-threat pop superstar Carole King marries a little blue-eyed funk with a '70s-style singer-songwriter's sensibilities in "I Feel the Earth Move" from one of the era's must-have albums, Tapestry. And finally, Billy Joel — who spent a chunk of 2009 and 2010 performing with Elton on the Face 2 Face Tour — digs deep into both the mythology of the West and his own life, with some flying-finger pyrotechnics in "The Ballad of Billy the Kid." From ABBA to Roxy Music, we've got all the sensitive singer-songwriters, pin-up pop stars, and rock royalty who shared the airwaves and arenas with Elton.
