Comment:
First off: I stole this concept from Michael Alexander, who posted a similar mix here awhile back. For my own, slightly more expansive take on the mix, I started with the songs referenced in Hunter Thompson's classic book (less the Vegas showtunes), then filled out the balance with songs that conveyed similar moods. (Kinda like a lame movie soundtrack padded out with songs "inspired by" the film.) I ended up with a mix of late '60's San Francisco and L.A. psychedelia and country-tinged rock, early '70's protest songs, and some darker paranoia-drenched tunes for the book's darker turns. I also alternated the songs with dialogue from the film (cribbed from a few websites) -- requiring a few hours with CoolEdit to get the volume modulations right. Then played it constantly this weekend and enjoyed it quite a bit. I also put together some dynamite cover art, but, for some reason, I can't get AOTM to load the art. I'll try again later.
Feedback:
i like the part in the book when they get high
Looks very cool.
Looks great. It's cool that you were able to incorporate some film dialogue as well. Apparently everyone at AOTM is unable to post images at the moment, but they're working on it.
This not only nails the concept perfectly, but includes killer tunes ("8:05" is a particular favorite) to boot. By the way, Skills McPlenty's comment is one of the funniest things I've ever read here. :-)
Looks like the artwork upload is up and running again. Hooray!
great music, great mix!

Great mix, I just did a similar one and then found yours... great cover, and great choices on yours!
