One perfect, indispensible album (the Modern Lovers' self-titled debut -- if anyone reading this doesn't own it, then you have a massive hole in your music collection) followed by about 30 years of eclectic, hit-and-miss, occasionally delightful odds and ends.

Outstanding! I love Modern Lovers....if i must pick favs....1,2,3,4 and the rst i guess, i still miss Richman's later works in my collection:(

I'd add "I, Jonathan" as a "hole in the collection" if you don't have. (You do, judging by #s 18 & 19...) Viva Jonathan!

I Love nearly everything on this one. It took a little while for me to adjust to the keyboards on Surrender, but you selected some of my favorite songs from that one.

Great stuff, it goes without saying. That Modern Lovers debut really is something special. "Girlfren" though is one song I just can't do without. You nailed it in your description though, one word would some up the best of his work, and that is "delightful". Followed closely by "scrumtralescent"

Excellent chronological collection. I used to have the original Modern Lovers LP on Berzerkley, but that was lost or stolen many years ago. Now you've gone and made me want to replace it for sure.

"The Modern Lovers" is in a three way tie as my favorite album of all time, tied with "the white album" and Talking Heads' "Remain In Light." Not only that, I think it pretty much gave birth to nerd rock (my favorite genre of music). Great stuff here, though I'd go heavier on the debut and the second album. Hey, is this the extended version of "Dodge Veg-o-matic" with the talking at the beginning? I was disappointed that wasn't on the "Rock And Roll" CD. Oh, I mey JoJo after a show once. The guy's a prince.

I stumbled across the modern lovers first disc in my local record store about 2 months ago, and damnit if I didn't literally scream out loud when I saw it.

I fucking LOVE this, like I love most of your mixes.
