#9......THIS IS PURE LOVE for me, I'll never forget the first time I heard them when i was 10 years old, playing my stepfather's singles, there was Hendrix, Hollies, Tages, Beatles, and Byrds Mr.Tambourineman.......It was a shock to me, It totally changed my life.....that lovely 12-Rickenbacker sound screamed out in the room!! It's still One of my absolute favorite tunes! There is so much to say about this band i guess, They were Pop, Folk-rock, Garage, Psychedelic, Country rock etc...I don't know if i like their early 70s records so very much but i can listen to them but I don't do it very often. I can talk about Byrds and Roger McGuinn for hours and hours but i think Sir.Sean Lally said so many nice things about them on his Rickenbacker-theme-mix. Shame on Columbia/CBS/Sony for not including the wonderful version of "Child of the universe" with horns that apears on the soundtrack to "Candy" 1969 on thier Remasters or the box-set!Feedback:
GREAT stuff, Mike. Let me know what you think of my Byrds mix (from the summer of '01), "The mechanical sounds of the era".
Woohooo! This is pure heaven.
A faultless mix, Michael. I love the Byrds with a passion also. You could easily make another volume with 27 more songs and it would be just as good.
You got that right Gerry, No problem to make another 27-mix, Am i the only one on this earth that LOVE the live version of "Lover of the bayou"?
Rob your "The mechanical sounds of the era" is fantastic, As i said before, I could easy do one more Byrds-mix but I'm only doing single discs for this box, I'm sure I gonna shoot myself after making my Dylan-mix:-D How could I forget to pick Chestnut mare?!?!?!?! No more red wine for me please;-)
No, Mike, you're not! I always liked that song too. In the next volume please include Time Between;Artificial Energy and Set you free this time. :-)
I promise you Gerry! I'm gonna check your mixes tonight so we can do our first 2003 trade! In the end of next week I'm gonna finnish my Sixties American Psych#8, and I'm sure You want that one too;-)
Great stuff!
vad kan jag sSga som inte Sr sagt, toppen mix av en toppen grupp, ska fixa alla dina trasiga mixar snart
The Byrds had so many different incarnations. I love them all. Great selections here. I have one quibble, and it's not with your mix. I don't think the version of "Why" on the box set is actually the 45 version as advertised. I have the 45, and although the sound is pretty rough on my copy, it's a lot louder, more electric, and I think faster than the version on the box set.
Franklin, You have absolutely right, the single version si not on the box-set, but the more electric and faster single version appears on the remastered Fifth Dimension-cd as a bonus track, there's a lot of fun bonus tracks on the remastered cd's that not appears on the box-set! There's a incredible good instrumental track on the "Turn!Turn!Turn!"-cd called "Stranger in a strange land".....if not heard it......run to your record-dealer and get a copy!
A great tribute to a great band.
really good compilation!
Of course you realize that this is wonderful. Excellent choices. "She don't care about time" is one of my all-time favorite songs - it's beautiful, but it also reminds me of being young. Plus, it makes me think about Gene Clark and how youth can fade. Awesome job. -- "Sir Sean Lally" (I like that.)
This is really lovely and very similar to a Byrds mix I would make. How do you think Dusty's versions of "Goin' Back" and "Wasn't Born to Follow" compare?
I LOVE Dusty's versions of Goin' back & Wasn't born to follow! Many thanks for your mixes BTW! I love them, esp. the 2 Dusty-mixes! Hope you like some of mine too;)
